Message from our First Grand Principal

I hope that you will find your visit to the Supreme Grand Chapter of Scotland Website both interesting and beneficial. Royal Arch Freemasonry has been in existence since the eigtheenth century and I hope that what you have seen from this Website kindles more than a glance out of curiosity.

As you will gather the Supreme Grand Royal Arch Chapter of Scotland has been a very important part of Freemasonry since being formed in 1817.   We have Chapters in almost every corner of the world and in those little or large corners there are dedicated Royal Arch Freemasons who keep their Chapters going for future generations.

As you can imagine, as First Grand Principal, I am extremely proud of these men. I was elected as First Grand Principal in 2004, succeeding a very charismatic and popular individual in the name of the Earl of Elgin and Kincardine who had held this office for thirty four years.   I can only express my sincere thanks to Lord Elgin for holding this post for such a long time because it demonstrates the dedication and committment he gave to Freemasonry and to those individuals who support it throughout the world.   I am sure that I will not achieve thirty four years but while in office intend to give as much time and effort as my predecessor.

Freemasonry has been in my genes for generations with both my father and great, great uncle holding high offices in the Scottish Orders.   I was initiated into the Craft in the early 1980's and have been an active mason since 1994.   The enjoyment and friendship I have received from all parts of Freemasonry cannot be explained in simple terms.

I hope that by showing interest in our Website you may be encouraged to extend your interest in this very special worldwide Order.   It is said that "Masonry gives you far more than you give it", a sentiment with which most active participants would agree. I trust that through your curiosity we will meet one day and become firm friends as this companionship is a small but wonderful part of being a Royal Arch Freemason.
